Common Entry Points for Water

Floor Cracks

When the floor cracks, water can rise up through the concrete when it rains or snows, which disappears back into the ground during dry weather.

Cove Joint Seepage

The seam between your walls and floors can be prone to cracking and leaking. As the joint degrades, water can seep into your basement from behind the walls.

Masonry Walls

In cinder block foundations, the joints between the blocks can break down over time and start to leak. Water can come in through the joints and drip down the walls.

Window Wells

Any windows below grade can collect pockets of moisture on the outside. Over time, this can degrade the seals and let water into your home.

Pipe Penetrations

In the areas where pipes pass through your walls (gas lines, water lines, etc.), these seals can break down and allow water to find its way into your basement. 

Tie Rods

For poured concrete wall foundations, the molds used to create them include tie rods. However, the tie rods can rust and break down, leaving holes in the concrete where water can get in.

Basement Drains

Older homes often have very basic basement drains, which are prone to clogging and collapsing over time. This allows easy entry for water.
